CitizenSpeak Has 2 Mommies

Nearly 10 years ago, we celebrated the birth of CitizenSpeak - the first free email advocacy service for grassroots activists.  Since then CitizenSpeak.org has helped thousands of people lobby representatives to protect our rights, communities, schools, libraries, parks, the arts and much more. CitizenSpeak is also a free and open source e-advocacy module available on the Drupal platform.

Today, on its tenth birthday, CitizenSpeak is proud to announce that it has two mommies – Michelle Murrain and Jo Lee.  Going forward, CitizenSpeak will be managed by Michelle Murrain, one of the leading open source developers in the nonprofit sector.  Under her direction, CitizenSpeak will soon be available on Drupal 7 and CitizenSpeak.org will be upgraded to this latest Drupal version. There are also integration plans with open source CRM systems in the works.  Jo Lee, CitizenSpeak’s original mommy and co-founder, will continue to assist with communications from India where she will be living for the next year.

What will two mommies mean for users?  Other than a technically stronger platform, CitizenSpeak will continue to provide a free and easy to use email service and a NO email-harvesting policy.

CitizenSpeak has won a number of accolades over the last decade, including

- A $10,000 Pizzigati Award for the best open source software in the public space (with George Hotelling)

- A listing in the Wall Street Journal as a leading tool for social change.

- A Webby Honoree Award

If you have questions about the CitizenSpeak module or CitizenSpeak.org, or want to help out in any way, please direct your questions to Michelle Murrain at michelle@murrain.net.

Thank you for your interest and happy campaigning!
