Subject: Support AB 1599 Help People Save Their Homes
Dear Assembly Member,
I urge you to vote for AB 1599 when it comes before you on the Assembly floor. This bill says that, in a home foreclosure procedure, the notice of default, and later a notice of intended sale of the property, must be provided in one of the following languages; English Spanish, Chinese, Tagalog, Vietnamese, or Korean, as appropriate for the borrower.
As you must know, huge numbers of home owners are losing their homes to foreclosure during this prolonged economic down turn. Foreclosure is a long and complicated process. And it requires lenders to provide borrowers with several key documents during that process.
Part of the reason for that complicated process is to make sure home owners get every chance possible to pay their back due mortgage payments so they can keep their homes. The documents they receive, provide information they can use to set things right and keep their homes.
However, those documents are of little use if the home owner speaks limited English, and so can't understand what the documents say. California has large populations of people whose primary language is Spanish, or one of the Asian or Pacific Island languages listed above.
According to the US Census Bureau, well over 14 million of them speak English less than well.
The home foreclosure process is very difficult and stressful at its best. It is a nightmare if you can't even read the documents associated with it. Probably many home owners, who might have saved their homes, lost them instead because they could not read the foreclosure documents.
You can help some of them save their homes by voting for AB 1599. Please vote for this important bill.
