Subject: Stop DHCD Foreclosure on Kiefaber's Private Residence
Dear Governor O'Malley:
I am writing to protest the State of Maryland's punitive home foreclosure action against former Senator Theatre owner, Thomas Kiefaber. The State's DHCD agency, using the Baltimore law firm of Rosen Hoover, P.A. to attempt to shield what's taking place from the public's awareness, is currently set to auction Mr. Kiefaber's primary residence on May 24th.
This foreclosure action is now set to occur three years after his many supporters were widely assured, as was the general public, that the liens on Mr. Kiefaber's private residence would be released as a proviso of his not exercising his rights to prevent or delay the foreclosure action of his private property, The Senator Theatre.
The DHCD action being callously taken against Mr. Kiefaber, at 60 years of age, is morally wrong, and grossly unfair, effectively victimizing a lifelong community supporter and activist for the cause of historic preservation and governmental openness, transparency and accountability.
Were it not for Mr. Kiefaber's multi-award-winning dedication to The Senator Theatre's renowned legacy and its protection and preservation over several key decades, one of Maryland's most unique and nationally celebrated landmark buildings would have fallen by the wayside, joining so many others nationwide without such a devoted protector.
It's solely due to Mr. Kiefaber's vision, perseverance, and deep personal sacrifice that the celebrated Senator, which showcased a plethora of Made-in-Maryland feature films, has also survived remarkably intact, and built a Baltimore-based brand of operational excellence as a legendary, nationally revered landmark theatre.
Throughout his tenure as the Senator's owner and its tireless promoter and steward, The Senator served as a crucial economic engine, supporting the Belvedere Square commercial district revitalization, and contributed millions into City and State coffers in the process. The scores of star-studded fundraisers produced by Mr. Kiefaber also raised millions in funds in support of many health-related charitable organizations and community-based non-profits.
Thomas Kiefaber has contributed far too much to the State of Maryland and its citizens, throughout his adult life, for the State's DHCD agency to become a disingenuous predator, reneging on public commitments in attempting a stealth auction of his private residence. Please halt this action and allow Mr. Kiefaber to keep his home, as was promised to him and the citizens of Maryland.
