Subject: Save Our Multnomah County Library
Your Personal Statement
Dear County Chair Jeff Cogan, Commissioner Deborah Kafoury, Commissioner Loretta Smith, Commissioner Judy Shiprack, and Commissioner Diane McKeel,
I am writing to ask you to take a strong stand to provide adequate and stable funding for the Multnomah County Library by allowing a library district to be placed on this spring's ballot at a rate that will maintain our library's funding at its current service level. Please do not underestimate Multnomah County voters or the grassroots supporters of the library, including myself. We can and will all work together to ensure that a library district is approved, but only if that option appears on the ballot. Multnomah County voters understand that we need a strong library system now more than ever.
I urge you to vote to place a library district at a rate to maintain current service levels before the voters this spring, so that our library will not face severe and repeated budget cuts. We must all do our part to ensure that Multnomah County continues to have a world-class library system, and that starts with putting this issue before the voters in a form that will allow the library to at least maintain its current funding. Please do not sell our library short.
