Subject: Keep ALL the Students of the Lakes at Mossman Elementary!
Your Personal Statement
When making your upcoming decision regarding the Mossman Elementary attendance zone boundaries, I ask that you SUPPORT the Alternate Proposal submitted by parents and supporters of the Keep the Lakes U-Knight-ed group. This proposal achieves the district's goals of keeping Mossman within capacity limits through 2016.
Data discrepancies, while important, are NOT REQUIRED to meet the projections.
I've summarized 3 substantial flaws with the current Mossman SBAC proposal below, making it an unthinkable solution.
- 3 schools in 4 years does not provide stability: It's the duty of the school district to help protect the development of ALL students, and the SBAC proposal will send more than just a few students to their third school in four years! If the current proposal is accepted, these same children will see a fourth school just 2 years later! This is unconscionable.
- Dividing a community is just not right: Just because previous communities may have been split by school boundaries does not make it right in this case. We're one community, and Mossman is a part of our identity. Dissolving our community in the name of boundary changes is unnecessary now, and it will support further division of our community in the future.
- SBAC proposals are unsupported by the data: It's unnecessary to move children of the Lakes to another school at this point. The alternate proposal submitted by our community, without considering data errors, provides a way for Mossman to stay within capacity through 2016. And, when further demographic errors are considered, capacity projections are even more unlikely.
Your decision on February 27 will shape our children's future and our community. Please vote to keep ALL the students of the Lakes at Mossman.
