Subject: Stay the Course - Do AVI Right by Delaying a Year

Mayor Nutter and Members of City Council:

As a homeowner who pays my taxes on time every year, I am relieved City Council did the right thing on June 14 and voted to delay the implementation of AVI until 2014.

AVI is essential - but it must be done right, not recklessly.

Delaying a year will let homeowners see their new assessments ahead of time and make rational financial plans. It will let the Mayor and Council know what the city's real estate is really worth. And it will give Harrisburg time to pass enabling legislation needed to protect homeowners from extreme, financially ruinous increases.

But I am distressed by press reports saying administration officials are making a last-minute push to change Council's mind.

Please stay true to our city's voters and taxpayers. I urge Council to reaffirm the one-year AVI delay in its final vote on June 21. And I urge the Mayor to sign the legislation without delay.
