To Chairman Brown and Council members Thomas, Brown, Catania, Biddle, Mendelson:
To Mayor Gray:
To ANC 5A Members and ANC 5B Members:
As a resident of Washington, DC, I want to ask that a shuttle service be provided along Rhode Island Ave NE from the Rhode Island Ave Metro station to South Dakota Ave NE.
Given the redevelopment of the Rhode Island Ave metro station and the future potential growth of Rhode Island Ave NE, residents and Metro riders need a way to frequent and participate in the revitalization. As with H Street and other areas of the City that has or had shuttle services dedicated to their business corridors, we believe that Rhode Island Ave deserves one as well.
As a proposed Great Street, Rhode Island Ave has potential but no incentive for businesses to come to the area. Providing a shuttle service would not only get residents and Metro riders to the businesses at the Metro station and along Rhode Island Ave but will show to small business owners that the City is behind the revitalization of Rhode Island Ave.
Please consider working with local businesses, Metro, and the City to bring a dedicated Rhode Island Ave shuttle to this corridor, once called the "Diamond of the District".
In addition, we encourage you to move Rhode Island Ave up to a priority for the Street Car program. This could take the place of the shuttle service in the future and provide a permanent solution to connect residents with their community.
