Dear Mr. Hein and Chairman Donaldson:
What will you do to make it possible for Ulster County to keep our lever machines and stop the transition to computerized voting?
NY has met the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) mandate. It does not require us to move to electronic voting.
We already have a compliant,affordable, secure, reliable voting system using lever machines that provide transparency and protect against abuse.
There is overwhelming evidence that computerized voting systems are vulnerable to tampering.
In this economic crisis, it is irresponsible for the County to spend millions on electronic voting machines that aren't necessary and bring a new set of problems.
Other county legislatures have taken action. I want our county to take action, too!
