I am a concerned resident writing this letter to urge you to allocate funding to the prevention and intervention programs for youth at-risk of delinquency that were slashed by local agencies as a result of the approximately 10% budget cut to the county fund in fiscal year 2009-2010 and the proposed 20% budget cut to the county fund for fiscal year 2010-2011.
I recognize that the county has fiscal constraints. However, investing in prevention and intervention programs for juvenile offenders can save the county as much as $30,000 per youth including costs of law enforcement, the court system, and correctional facilities.
When allocating funds for the 2010-2011 fiscal year budget, please consider the benefits that youth intervention and prevention programs provide to our community.
