Subject: Chula Vista Oppossed to Arizona's SB 1070- and In Support of Fairness and Civil Rights
"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." The Rev.Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
We urge Chula Vista Mayor and City Council members to join Los Angeles, El Paso, Chicago, San Francisco, San Diego, and other cities across the country in their COURAGE to OPPOSE Arizona's SB1070.
This law is is impractical, violates our values, and divides our communities. We need real solutions that embrace fairness, equal treatment, and due process. Our immigration system is
broken, but disregarding our values is not the answer to fixing it.
We ask Mayor Cheryl Cox, and Council Members Rudy Ramirez, Mitch Thompson, Steve Castaneda, and Pamela Bensoussan, to work with community organizations and introduce a Resolution before the Chula Vista City Council at the May 11th City Council Meeting. We ask that the Resolution address the following two key priorities:
1.Oppose the passage of SB 1070 because it "undermines basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans, as well as the trust between police and their
communities that is so crucial to keeping us safe." (President Barrack Obama)
2.Send a Copy of the Resolution to the Governor of Arizona, on behalf of the residents of the City of Chula Vista asking Governor Jan Brewer to repeal SB 1070.
HOW YOU CAN HELP!
1. Chula Vista Residents call/email/fax the Mayor and Council ASAP!
2. Organizations (congregations, community based, student/youth, labor unions, cultural arts etc.) Submit organizational letters to the Mayor and Council Members of the City of Chula Vista.
3. Businesses- contact the Mayor and Council in whatever manner is most convenient for you.
EVERYONE- Please forward to your email list!
