Broward County's arts and cultural organizations are critical to our quality of life. They gather together and inspire our diverse communities and ensure a creative spark in the next generation that enables them to compete on a global stage.
Historically, local government has been a pivotal partner in nurturing the development of a strong fabric of cultural groups. But proposed cuts in county funding are now imperiling Broward's cultural organizations: programs that benefit our community have been reduced and further cuts will force some groups to close their doors forever.
The Broward County Board of County Commissioners should Hold the Line on funding for cultural organizations. I oppose any further cuts to county funding for arts and culture in the 2010-2011 budget.
